Back in 2004, I traveled to the island of Grenada, British West Indies, to visit a good friend of mine who worked there for the Peace Corps. It was an absolutely beautiful island and I was introduced to some of the most humble, kind, and wonderful people that I have ever met. But to witness poverty on a scale not recognizable here in the United States was extremely moving. Not long after I left, the island was devistated by a massive Hurricane named Ivan. And to this day I feel terrible that there was so little I did (or could) do to help.
Enter the recent earthquake on the Caribbean island of Haiti. Obviously, an absolutely devistating event to say the least. My thoughts of Grenada quickly rekindled, and this time I am determined to do more. I am in a position with my photography business and my blog to reach out to so many people to encourage help and or donations… so here goes.
What I am asking is for you to make a minimum donation of $10.00 directly to any reputable charity where the money supports HAITI and their disaster relief effort. Then simply email me a copy of your receipt of payment as well as your name, address, and phone, to be entered into a drawing to receive a 24×20 Framed Print (actual print size is 20×16) showing Ted Williams red seat where he had hit the longest homerun in Fenway Park history. And in addition, one overly generous person who can show the largest donation above $100.00 will also receive the same 24×20 Framed print.
Here are some of the possible charities you can donate to … Unicef, American Red Cross, CARE, Doctors Without Borders, Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
Please email me a copy of a receipt of your donation to Info@BrianPhillipsPhoto.com . (and of course you can black out any information that I don’t need)
I will close the raffle on Sunday January 31st, 2010, at 11:59PM. The winner(s) will be drawn the following day, Monday February 1st, with an announcement made on the blog indicating the winners. Please make sure all donations were made between the dates of Jan 21st (today) and Jan 31st. THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance for your charity and generosity!!!

Here are a few images I took while in Grenada, BWI, back in March 2004… just months prior to their hurricane. The photo with the wooden shack, tin roof (3rd down) had a family of about 8 people living in it. While the island had a beautiful port city names St. George’s that garnered tourism from crusie ships, the remainder of the island is extremely poor. I know this to be the same case with Haiti and won’t even try to comprehend the pain and suffering they are going thru right now and for generations to come.
